Cetara
A small fishing village on the Amalfi Coast
Cetara is a town in the province of Salerno and a small fishing village on the Amalfi Coast. Cetara is a fishing village, in fact its name derives from the Latin (CETARIA), TONNARA, which means: sellers of big fish. One of the ancient traditions of Cetara is that: in the months of March and April the local fishermen leave to go in Algeria and Morocco to devote themselves to fishing for anchovies, which will then be stored under salt. Even today the typical cuisine of Cetara is based on fish, in particular TONNO and ALICI. In fact, in this seaside village are born the spaghetti with anchovy sauce, a liquid obtained from the fermentation of the Anchovies and left to marinate in the jars. Cetara is located on the Amalfi Coast a few kilometers from Vietri Sul Mare and a few kilometers from Maiori, also a small village on the Amalfi Coast.
>Among its best-known gastronomic specialities, there is undoubtedly the anchovy sauce of Cetara, which takes its name from the seaside village of the same name. An evocative place linked to ancient traditions, famous for this condiment based on anchovies caught in the Gulf of Salerno.
