Ischia
To the city of Naples also belong the flegrean islands as the island of Ischia a strong tourist attraction for the gulf of Naples. Ischia is almost ten kilometers wide with a coastline of almost 34 kilometers. The island of Ischia by the Latins was called PHITECUSA, a name that derives from the Greek and means (VASO), the island of the Potters. Thanks to the archaeological excavations of 1993, it appears that,: the first settlers settled on the heights of Chiarito peak, in Panza a fraction of the municipality of Forio. Today the island of Ischia is known for its thermal waters, thanks to its volcanic nature it is one of the major thermal centers in Europe. The island of Ischia is well connected by ferries and hydrofoils to all ports of Naples, Mergellina and Pozzuoli.
